Fast food is bad for you. Yet we still love to eat these foods with the U.S fast food industry taking in $191 billion in 2013, an astounding number.

You name it, they are all fast, tasty, and if you eat them all the time you will probably get fat. But is that the real concern? We all know that eating pizza all the time isn't going to give us the body we want, but what most people don't know is that it's not just the fat gaining risks which make fast food bad for your health. The bigger concern is what these companies putting in their fast food before it goes in to your mouth.
We all love something a little on the unhealthy side every now and then as a treat, but does a burger have to contain sugar, colouring, cancer causing chemicals, and who knows what else? Of course it doesn't! When I make burgers at home I am well aware that I am eating a high fat, high carb meal but i'm also aware that my burger is not some sort of lab experiment with more ingredients than is necessary with no understanding of the consequences. I guess this is the price you pay for ultimate convenience.
So it's not necessarily the burger, or the pizza, or the fries that is the problem. In moderation these foods are fun! But should not need to include the following:
- Azodicarbonamide (Chemical found in shoe rubber)
- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) with proven cancer causing risks.
- Butylated Hydroxyanisole (cancer causing preservative)
- Aspartame (cancer causing sweetener)
- Sodium Nitrate (high risk flavouring)
You get the point. Now I am not smart enough to go in to the science of exactly why these are bad but there are many studies that will tell you how and why these chemicals are not something you want to be consuming on a regular basis. So it might not necessarily be the fact that eating a burger or a pizza is the problem (in moderation), it is what these fast food chains are putting in to their products and what they are frying their food in that can potentially cause long term health problems.
My advice, fast food doesn't have to contain alien chemicals with unknown consequences. Choose whole, natural, and less processed fast food establishments rather than massive fast food chains. Burgers taste great but don't need to cause you long term health issues.
We all make choices, the more better choices you can make the better your health will be.
